Nasarawa Govt seeks media support to promote Govt’s policies, programmes

Nasarawa State Government has sought for a robust media partnership to promote accurate reportage of the Government policies and programmes in the state.

Dr Ibrahim Tanko, Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism made the appeal in Lafia during the familiarization tour of media houses in the state.

The Commissioner who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Mr Yusuf Musa and the Management staff of the Ministry visited the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS), Breeze FM and Precious FM respectively.

According to him, accurate reportage of Government policies and programmes will keep the public abreast of the developmental strides of the administration of Gov Abdullahi Sule.

” I know that this administration is doing its best in ensuring that the information sector is being given priority to enhance information dissemination.

“I want to assure you that my door is always open, we are here to strengthen the existing partnership between the media and government.

“This administration is doing a lot, so there’s a need for the general public to get accurate information about what the government is doing,” he said.

On the request to furnish the press Centre, the Commissioner said the government would look into that to ensure that it motivates journalists to do their work correctly and objectively.

He applauded Gov Sule for prioritising the information sector and providing necessary support, including the donation of buses to the State Council and Correspondent Chapel, as well as the renovation of the NUJ Secretariat.

In separate remarks, Comrade Salihu Alkali, NUJ Chairman, Hajiya Rahmatu Salaudeen, NTA, and Mal. Awalu Salihu, Executive Vice Chairman, NBS, thanked Dr Tanko for the visit and assured him of their support.

Alkali, however, appealed to the State Government to give Pilgrimage slots to NUJ in the future.
