

Ahead of the November 2 Local Government Areas (LGAs) election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has fixed October 16 for its primaries to elect their chairmanship flag bearers for the 13 LGAs.
Mr Aliyu Bello, Nasarawa State Chairman of APC, announced this at an expanded stakeholders meeting of the party on Monday in Lafia.
The state chairman had also announced October 14 for primaries to elect its councillorship flag bearers in the 147 electoral wards of the state.
Bello had also announced that the nomination form for the chairmanship position is N5 million and N1 million for expression of interest.
He also said that the nomination form for the councillorship post is N1.5 million and N400,000 for expression of interest.
He added that the screening of aspirants would begin on October 7-10, while appeals arising from the primaries on October 17, and names of successful candidates would be submitted to the electoral body on 18.
He, also said that the party had decided to prioritise the adoption of consensus candidates for all positions in line with the provisions of their party’s constitution.
He, therefore, directed stakeholders from the various electoral wards and LGAs to engage with aspirants and forward three names for chairmanship in each area for onward consideration.
“In an event where the consensus could not be achieved the party will conduct either direct or indirect primaries in the affected areas,” he added.
Also speaking at the meeting, Gov. Abdullahi Sule appreciated the stakeholders for attending the meeting to strategies on ways to ensure that their candidates succeed in the forthcoming LG election.
The governor had also collaborated with the APC Chairman on the issue of consensus candidates and added that it is constitutional.
Sule advised the aspirants to put the interest of the party over all other interests and know that leadership comes from God.
He advised them to exhibit maturity and desist from anything that would destabilize the party.
The governor called on the leaders of the party in the state to work together for the success of all the candidates of the party in the election.
The meeting was attended by Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, Former National Chairman of APC, Umaru Al-Makura, former governor, Speaker of the House of Assembly, and members.
Others are National Assembly members of the party, former elected and appointed members of the party, and party officials from the state to electoral wards, among others. (NAN).
