Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has reaffirmed his commitment to addressing insecurity and myriad of challenges currently faced the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.
Governor Mutfwang made the commitment when he received a delegation from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and other development partners at the Old Government House in Jos.
The governor who was represented his Deputy, Hon. Josephine Piyo, also vowed to ensure the return of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homes soon.
In a statement Chief Press Secretary to the deputy governor, Martha Nyam, the governor noted that the needs assessment visit is a crucial step in dealing with the current humanitarian challenges in the state.
He further stated that in a bid to address the current hardship faced the displaced persons, the state has activated the Plateau State Humanitarian Emergency Operation Centre (PSHEOC) to ensure a comprehensive and impactful humanitarian response for those affected.
The Governor revealed that the PSHEOC comprises 10 sectors focusing on different aspects such as health, education, food security, and shelter coordination.
Earlier, the USAID Programme Manager, Mr. Murphy Opadotun, said that they, along with other development agencies operating under the United Nations framework, are in the state to engage with government officials, frontline aid workers, and IDPs to gain a better understanding of the humanitarian needs in the state and the underlying factors driving them.
