The Management of Karl Kumm University Vom, has announced the death of her Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the institution’s first Governing Council, Professor Ochapa Onazi.
In a statement by the Institution’s Registrar, Mr. Benjamin Dachomo on behalf of the Board and management, said the institution extend her condolence to his immediate family, friends and the Gindiri Old Students Association (GOSA) for the loss.
The statement read, “On behalf of Board of Trustees, Governing Council, Senate, Management, staff and students of Karl Kumm University, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Nanven Audu Gambo, with profound sense of grief, announces the transition to eternal glory of our beloved Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the 1st Governing Council of the University, Professor Ochapa C. Onazi OON, on 1st August, 2024.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and Gindiri Old Students Association (GOSA) over the sad loss. May the good Lord grant his gentle soul eternal rest. Burial arrangements as announced by the family. Adieu Baba Onazi.”
Similarly, the Gindiri Old Students Association (GOSA), through her President, Elizabeth Tsavnande has mourn the transition to glory of Prof. Ochapa Onazi, who is a member of the first set of the Boys Secondary School, Gindiri, (set 1955).
Until his demise Prof. Onazi was the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Gindiri Old Students Association and one time President of the Association. He was also the third Vice Chancellor of the prestigious University of Jos between 1985 to 1989.
The late Professor was the founder of many Universities in Nigeria and has received several honors and awards including Officer of the Order of the Niger in 2003 and recipient of the National Universities Distinguished Professor Award in 2014.
