Plateau Assembly Wants State Security Outfits to Curb Insecurity 

Plateau State House of Assembly has called on local governments in the state to equip local vigilantes in their locality to combat insecurity in the State 

Member representing Barkin Ladi State Constituency, Mr. Dickson Chollom made the call in a motion during the Assembly plenary on Wednesday.

He also called on the state owned security outfit known as “Operation Rainbow” and other security agencies in the state to intensify efforts in curbing the insecurity and bring perpetrators to justice.

The Lawmaker maintained that the indiscriminate killings of innocent natives in Barkin ladi had continued unabated, with a recent case on the 12th of May this year, where a young man was gruesomely murdered.

The member pointed out that the killings heighten during the farming season which if not curbed would lead to food insecurity in the near future.

Mr. Chollom called on the house to also mandate local governments in the state to equip local vigilantes in their locality to enable them combat insecurity.

The motion received support of other members of the house who agreed that the issue was worrisome.

In the resolution of the house, Speaker of the State Assembly Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan said the assembly would dedicate a day or two for members to sensitize their constituents on the need to be cautious, support security agencies and to desist from aiding and abetting crimes, adding that government would ensure perpetrators are severely dealt with.

In another motion sponsored by Daniel Nanbol of Langtang North Central and all members of the house, on a call on the plateau state government and all members at the National and State Assembly as well as federal representatives to synergise towards ensuring an upward review and creation of additional state constituencies in the state.

The motion received massive support from members who agreed that the motion was timely, considering the population of the state.

The Speaker of the house Gabriel Dewan advised the members to set aside sentiments and work together towards ensuring the motion comes to fruition.

He advised the state assembly members to lias with the National Assembly members in their various constituencies as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC and Plateau State Independent National Electoral Commission PLASIEC to see that the motion is achieved.
