Nigeria’s Political Turmoil Erodes Trust in the System- COCIN President

The President and Spiritual Leader of the Church of Christ in Nations, COCIN, Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo has said that the political turmoil in the country has eroded trust in the system and heightened the urgency for reform and improved governance.

He said this during his speech at the just concluded 104th General Church Council Meeting of the Church, held at its headquarters in Jos, Plateau State capital with over 300 delegates in attendance.

While speaking on the state of the nation, Rev. Dr. Mohzo expressed concerned on the economic hardship being faced by the citizens.

He said the country has experienced prolonged political dissatisfaction and growing disillusionment among the populace, and the citizens are increasingly concerned about the country’s governance, transparency and accountability.

“The economic challenges faced by the commoners in Nigeria are deeply concerning. Inflation, unemployment, and poverty rates have risen, making it difficult for individuals and families to meet their basic needs. The Impact of these economic hardships is being acutely felt, and the need for sustainable economic policies is paramount.” He said.

On national security threats by terrorists groups, bandits and kidnappers who have wreaked havoc in many parts of the country, Rev. Dr. Mohzo noted that combating the challenges requires concerted effort from government agencies and the citizens.

He added that the Church has a pivotal role to play in seeking the peace of the nation through reconciliation, peace-building and moral guidance in society. He called on the Church leaders to provide a platform for dialogue and cooperation among diverse groups to promote national unity.
