
The National and State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lafia, Nasarawa State on Sunday upheld the declaration of Mr Jacob Kudu of All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of Nassarawa-Eggon East constituency election of March 18.
Ahj. Ibrahim Mohammed, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is challenging the victory of Kudu of APC in the poll conducted in March this year.
Justice Francesca Nnong-Isoni, Chairman of the three-man panel update the election as according to her the petitioner had failed to prove his claim of irregularities in the election.
He therefore, dismissed the petition and awarded the fine of N200, 000 each to the first and second respondents, Kudu the APC respectively.
Reacting to the judgement, the petitioner through his counsel, Barr Edidiong Usungurua, said the the tribunal had acknowledged over voting in their judgement, but decided that we could not prove irregularities.
He therefore said that they would study the judgement and decide on the next line of action.
On his part, Barr Abdullahi Gayam, counsel to the first respondents lauded members of the panel for their wisdom in delivering a detail judgement.
He added that the judgement was indeed a true reflection of the will of the people of Nassarawa-Eggon East constituency.
Also, reacting, the member representing Nassarawa-Eggon East constituency at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly described the judgement as victory for the constituents at last.
Kudu added that with the verdict of the tribunal today, he can now settle down and delivery good representation to his people with a view of improving their lives.
The law maker also promised to sponsor bills to would adequately address the challenges of his people and give them the best representation to justify their votes for him.
He therefore, called on the petitioner to join hands with him to better the lives of the people of the constituency now that tribunal had affirmed the decision of the people. (NAN).
