Alleged murder: Suspected students are on suspension – Bingham University

The Management of Bingham University, Karu have said the three suspected students alleged to have involved in the killing of a Bolt driver in Abuja were on suspension over drug related issues the University before the alleged murder case against them.

This is contained in a statement signed Mr. Daburi Misal, Director, Public Affairs, Bingham University and made available to newsmen in Karu local government area of the state on Tuesday.

According to Misal, the statement was in reaction to a news report making the rounds on social media recently on the arrest of the trio for the alleged crime authorities of the Abuja Police Command.

Misal clarified that the students were suspended from school for being in possession of marijuana and other illicit substances in March, 2023 before the alleged murder.

He said the Abuja Police Command had arrested the trio for allegedly killing one Obasi Okeke, a Bolt taxi transportation driver over a scuffle on transport fare of their trip to a destination in Abuja.

“The management of the university here expresses it’s profound sadness over the development and states that the affected students were in March 2023 identified through the university’s zero tolerance policy on drugs and suspended them from the university for being in possession of Marijuana and other illicit substances,” he said.

He explained that as required the university, the students had been expected to have been taken to a rehabilitation center their guardians and taken back to the university only after the certification the university’s psychiatrist.

“It was therefore shocking to see that students who were supposed to be in rehabilitation are been paraded the police in Abuja.

“The university however pledges it’s full cooperation with the police in their investigation in the matter while expressing its deepest sympathy to the family of the deceased,” he added.
