Plateau Assembly set up Adhoc Committee for Two Bills

Plateau State House of Assembly has set up a seven (7) man adhoc committee to look into two bills that passed second reading in the floor of the House today.

Speaker of the House, Moses Sule announced the Committee after clerk of the Assembly, Ponven Wuyep read the bill for the second reading.

The two bills are, bill for a law to establish the Plateau State Law Reform Commission and other matters related, 2023 and the bill for a law to establish the Plateau State Citizens Mediation Center, all standing in the name of the majority leader, Ishaku Maren.

The bill for the establishment of the Plateau State Law Reform Commission, according to the majority leader, if passed into law will serve as coordinating center for all the state laws and local government bylaws as the commission will document all laws where they will be gazetted.

Deputy Speaker of the 10th Assembly, Gwattson Fom appreciated the bill, saying the commission if establish will actually served as a reservoir where all the state laws can be easily access by citizens when the need arise. He added that It will also help to harmonize all state’s laws to avoid duplication of laws in the state.

On the bill for a law to establish the Plateau State Citizens Mediation Center, the majority leader also explained that the center if establish will serve as an alternative dispute resolutions center where farm dispute, royalty dispute, landlord tenants and other domestic or Internal disputes in the state can be addressed.

Member representing Dengi constituency, Kalamu Isa noted that if establish, the center will serve as peace broker center and will also reduce the cost of citizens hiring lawyers to defend them in a dispute that can be addressed in the center.

The seven (7) man committee which was given two weeks to report to the house has the deputy speaker, Gwattson Fom as chairman and members representing Jos North-North, Aliyu Ibrahim, Langtang North-North, Nannim Lagyi, Quanpan South, Cornelius Dongnaan, Pengana, Happiness Akawu,  Dengi, Kalamu Isa and Kanke, Joseph Gokum as members.

The House also received report of the adhoc committee set up last week to look into the Plateau State Government’s request for a loan of Fifteen Billion Naira N15B to settle backlog of salary arrears of the state Civil Servants and for Agricultural inputs for farmers in the state.

During the plenary, member representing Pankshin North, Gabriel Dewan moved a motion under matters of urgent public importance on a call for State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to come to the aid of people of his Constituency over last week rainstorm that destroyed houses, schools and other businesses.

Speaker of the House, Moses Sule after hearing all the submissions of members on the motion and other related ones, sympathize with the people and reiterated the call on SEMA to go and take statistics and assist the affected communities to ameliorate their suffering, especially the students in order not to jeopardize their educational pursuit.

During the plenary, the speaker also announced Mr. Peter Tongshep as his Press Secretary and Mr. Nanchwat Napchang as his Chief of Staff.

Member representing Shendam constituency, Joseph Bukar was also announced as the Assembly minority leader.
