Group under the aegis of Coalition for Justice says it has uncovered plan by the Nasarawa State Government to influence judges, using some of the retired justices in the state.
Leader of the group, Mr. James Allu, made the allegation during a peaceful protest staged against political manipulation in the state on Tuesday in Lafia.
Allu said the protest was necessary to draw the attention of justices handling governorship election tribunal to critically look at cases before them based on merit and not on technicalities.
He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and judiciary to commit themselves to Justice in the ongoing governorship election petition tribunal in the State.
Allu called on the Judges to stay away from Government patronage to avoid external influence in the dispensation of justice without fear or favour.
He warned all parties involved to be neutral and desist from any attempt to tamper with justice as it would only amount to further denting the already challenging image of the state.
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, Indeed, today, we want to state that we are caught in an inescapable network of sympathy, tied in a single garment of destiny.
“We desired to have a society of equity and not oppression, this is not about but it is about our communities, we shall continue to fight injustice and impunity to defend our land
“Our mothers began this protest and some tagged them as barbaric, for us this peaceful protest will not stop here, we shall adopt every modern strategy to ensure equity, fairness until justice is attained,” he said.
