Plateau: Group advises clerics to Preach peace not social disharmony

A group, Christian Youths and Elders on the Plateau (CYEP) has advised religious leaders to promote peace by avoiding utterances that would entrench social disharmony among the people.

CYEP Chairman, Elder Joshua Ringsum and the Secretary, Evangelist Bulus Daset gave the advice on Thursday at the press briefing in Jos.

The duo said that religious leaders have the divine mandate to propagate their religions in a peaceful manner and not incite the people.

They urged them to use their platforms churn out religious values that would enhance social harmony and not the other way round.

“We condemn in strongest term the inflammatory statement by a cleric on the politics of Plateau, Berom ethnic nationality, some elders and Christians.

“We consider the statement that a particular religion should vote for a particular party as provocative and with all seriousness, condemn the utterances of such a cleric.

They advised all Christians to search themselves and desist from breaking the law.

The duo called on all Plateau people to avoid ethnic and religious sentiments and encourage the people to vote and protect their votes.
