INEC Trains Security Personnel for Hitch Free General Elections

Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has called on security agencies to adopt new strategies in line with unfolding trends across the country to ensure peaceful and hitch-free General Election.

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Nasarawa State, Dr Uthman Ajidagba made the call during a two day training for security personnel in Lafia the Nasarawa State capital.

The training drew participants from the police, the army, immigration, Federal Road Safety Commission and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps to update the personnel on their roles in line with the 2022 electoral law to ensure success in the forthcoming General Election.

Addressing the security personnel, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Nasarawa State, Dr. Uthman Ajidagba enjoined them to see themselves as critical partners to enhance seamless execution of the electoral process for sustainable peace, good governance and the rule of law.

Dr. Uthman Ajidagba however, pointed out that the success of the 2023 General Election depends largely on the roles of the security agencies hence, the need for them to be committed and remained apolitical in discharging their duties throughout the exercise.

Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police Mr Maiyaki Baba stressed the need for stronger collaboration among all the security agencies in the state especially in the area of intelligence gathering and information sharing during the elections.

The Commissioner represented by Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration and Finance  in the state Mr. Ibrahim Wudil noted that the police would be decisive to any  individuals and groups who indulge in perpetrating activities capable of causing unrest during the General Election.

The training featured technical sessions and sharing of security tips.
