
The Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Yakubu Sanda has charged local government lawmakers to brace up for Optimum Performance in their Legislative task.
The Speaker was speaking at an ongoing 3day capacity building workshop for Plateau State Councillors Organized by the State Assembly in collaboration with state Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and the Association of Local Government of Nigeria ALGON, holding at ITF centre of Excellence, Plateau state.
Represented by the Deputy Speaker of the 9th Assembly, Saleh Yipmong, the Speaker said the workshop is a brainchild of the state Assembly aimed at injecting knowledge to the local government lawmakers to address any uncertainty concerning the discharge of their primary duties as Legislators.
He urged them to always make use of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended and the Plateau State Local Government Law that empowered them to function well and carry out their responsibility diligently, irrespective of political or religious differences.

The Speaker advised them to go back, discuss and implement what they learnt at the workshop to improve their performance as Legislators.
Sanda said he is optimistic that after the training,” they will make life more meaningful and bearable for their people”.
Clerk of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Mr. Ponven Wuyep spoke on the topic, “Legislative Practice and Procedures”. He noted that the Legislature is an organized institution and if there is failure at the level of the Legislators, then nothing will stand in the society.

He stressed that Legislative activities follow due process and one cannot just wake up with a thought and expect it to become law. He cautioned on the issue of impeachment, saying they should always follow the due process before engaging in any impeachment exercise.
The Plateau State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Sylvanus Tapgun charged the Councillors to make use of the workshop to add value to their Legislative business. He encouraged them to always work in synergy with the people to deliver their mandate.
