Plateau: Jos East LGA moves to Boost local Revenue

Stakeholders in Jos East Local Government Council have adopted new approach to Internally Generated Revenue.

The move was taken at a stakeholders meeting which was held at the Council Chamber on on Thursday.

In a statement by the Information Officer of the Council, Yusufu Haruna Magit, Chairman of the Council, Yakubu Izang Ezekiel, stressed that the Local Government Council is poised to key into the new Revenue Law of the Rescue Administration on the Plateau to improve on her revenue. 

The statement noted that the Chairman further called on all the 10 Departments including education Sub Sectors to ensure all sources of Internationally Generated Revenue are promptly explored to change the narrative of over dependency on monthly Federal Allocation.

The helmsman also pointed out that an enlarged meeting with the Traditional Council, Community Leaders, Religious Organizations, Business and Farmers as well as Cattle breeders to brainstorm on the new approach for optimal result is underway.

The Legislative Council leader who was represented by the Chairman Committee on Business and House rules, Joseph Jonathan Azi opined that the meeting was timely considering the dwindling resources of the Local Government and pledged that the Legislative Arm will give any issue that relates to Revenue Generation speedy passage.

The Directors of the 10 Departments had earlier itemized sources of Internally Generated Revenue from their various Sub Sectors and however, identified lack of legislation, mobility, good feeder roads, honesty from revenue collectors, porous nature of markets and activities of middle men as major setback to the smooth Revenue Generation.
