Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Yakubu Sanda, has said that autonomy of the Legislature is a sure way of guaranteeing good Governance and Democratic process.
The Speaker, stated this at the opening of a three day Workshop on Capacity Building for Plateau State House of Assembly Members, holding at Fraser Suites, Abuja.
In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Sabastine Sabastine Hommuk said the speaker appreciated the organizers of the workshop, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Foundation, for the training and urged the members to Utilized the training to enable them inject new ideas and innovations that will promote a robust and more proactive Legislative business for the good of Plateau people.
The speaker assured of the house’s readiness to partner any Institution that will improve on its legislative task and promote grassroots development.
The Resident Representative of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Foundation in Nigeria, Dr Vladimir Kreck, said Konrad has over the years been impacting and improving capacity of the Legislators in Nigeria, geared towards promoting good Governance and Democratic process.
He Commended Members of the Plateau State House of Assembly, led by its Speaker, Rt Hon Yakubu Sanda, for it continues interest and commitment in improving the capacity of it’s members.
Director General, National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies.Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, said Plateau State House of Assembly, has been a pacesetter in many aspects and have achieved so much in the past years in it’s legislative function.
He noted that paper presentation at the Workshop have a direct bearing and preparing them for the transition ahead of the 2023 general election and other general national issues that has direct bearing on their Legislative function.
Among the topic bill for presentation at the three day Workshop are, “Roles of the Houses of Assembly, before, during and after Election. Substantive and Noteworthy Provisions of 2022 Electoral Act for Legislators / Candidates and Managing Constituency Relations: Outreach Strategies and Constituency Projects”.
