Press Week: Plateau NUJ Preaches Peace

As part of activities marking 2021 Press Week, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Plateau State Council have taken a road walk to some major roads in the state, preaching peace and sensitizing citizens on food security in the country and the need for them to be more diligent in their dealings.


The Council Chairman, Mr. Paul Jatau, was optimistic that the peace walk will showcase to the world the current situation in the state and will also change the perspective of people out there who sees Plateau as a “war zone”  and no go area best on some security reports they are hearing about the state.


“We want to let people know that Jos is save, people out there thinks there is no Houses standing in Jos, thinking Jos is a war zone, so we want to let people know through our activities that Jos is save for everyone to stay” he added.


Mr. Jatau appreciated the Plateau State Government for the cordial working relationship with Journalists in the state and the Plateau citizens for their partnership and the conducive environment for them to operate.


The road walk kick started at the NUJ Press Center around Hill station junction to Secretariat roundabout, back to Plateau Hospital to Central Bank roundabout and returned to the NUJ Secretariat.


The Journalists holding banner with drummers and trumpeters, singing to make the walk easy for the pen professionals who hardly have time to exercise due to their tired work schedules.


Other activities line up for the press week includes a 5-Aside football match between Highland FM and PRTVC chapels by 4pm today at the PRTVC 5-Aside Football Field, Joseph Gomwalk way and a Colloquium with the theme, ” “Tackling food crises in Nigeria through robust research  for sustainable development” to be delivered by Prof. Dakas C. J. Dakas tomorrow.


The press week will end with Juma’at prayers at the Jos Central Mosque on Friday and a thanksgiving service on Sunday at St.Monica’s Catholic Church Rantya.
