Journalists undergoing Skill Development Training on Family Planning in Abuja

There is an ongoing training for Journalists and Youths advocates on Advance Family Planning in the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Abuja, Nigeria.


The 4day training which was organized Pathfinder International, was aimed at not just training the participants to acquire more experience on family planning but to acquire training skills that can also help them to train others, says the Pathfinder International Country Director, Dr. Amina Aminu Dorayi in her welcome remark.


Dr. Dorayi appreciated the work of the Journalists for the Nigeria Community, especially in the health sector and being parts of the family planning advocacy in the country.

The Country Director was optimistic that at the end of the training, the participants can be trainers that even the organization can use them as resource persons in future training.


On her parts, the Senior Advisor to Reproductive Health and Family Planning in the organization, Dr. Sakina Bello, she urged the participants at the training to put in their best and give inn their minds for all the presentations so as to be able to tap the needed knowledge and past same to others.


Speaking further on the 4day training, the Pathfinder International Media and Communication Officer, Mr. Bayo Ewuola said the media plays an integral role in the success of advocacy hence, Pathfinder International prioritizes building the capacity of journalists at the subnational level to a series of capacity building opportunities including but not limited to ethical journalism, data-driven reporting, field trips, documentation, investigative journalism, new media, among others. 


“As the Advance Family Planning project is gradually winding up, and to ensure sustainability, it is now important to have a set of mentors among the journalists that will ensure that the skills exchange and development program for the media is further cascaded within the space. This will in turn sustain family planning advocacy at the subnational and national levels. 


“The intensive workshop will further enable trained and mentored journalists under the project in the act of mounting repeater training amongst and for their peers in media advocacy for FP” says the Media and Communication Officer of the organization.


Pathfinder International is one of the frontline Implementation partners for family planning that are working to ensure it full Implementation at national level and ensure government commit funds to family planning to create visibility in the Nigeria Community.
